After crushing, the raw materials are stored before raw milling.
Limestone is stored in a vertical silo. Because marl typically exhibits greater geological variability, it is stored in a circular blending bed, where the stacking and reclaiming process reduces variations in composition and promotes pre-homogenisation of the material (figures below).
Good homogenisation of the raw materials is important for maintaining stable composition of the raw meal and, consequently, stable operating conditions and clinker quality.
